Yes and no. There's lots of Prius guys out there running uber full time, their cars are not falling apart with over 200k miles. There's lots of examples of taxis lasting when properly maintained. Most taxis are abused however, one of the local taxi companies told me that when they hit their age limit (10 years or newer is only allowed in Pennsylvania), for example a 2007 Chevrolet Impala.. they will do the next required oil change when it's due and they won't change any fluids for the rest of the year.. just top off. The owner said the cars are worth $500-$1,000 when retired, normally beat up and over 250k miles. The risk of a engine failure or trans failure is high and it's not worth fixing if it does happen, he's had cars go 30-50k miles without an oil change and still sell them when retired.
