I have 64K on my 2014 Mirage. My suspension is starting to feel worn, at least to me. How long do the shocks and struts typically last? Do I have front struts and rear shocks? I don't see any 3rd parties selling them.
Thanks!

No one sells aftemarket suspension components for the Mirage and the stealership will charge you out the ying yang for OEM parts. Mine is at 60k and still ok but not as tight as when it was new.
Yaris rear shocks may work. Check this thread.
The suspension on these looks super basic. I wonder if O'Reilly or AutoZone can cross the part numbers to something. I wonder what dealer charges for the replacements is bet not too bad.
How does $500+ sound for 2 struts and 2 shocks?!? Oh...and you have to install them at that price. :p :D

Attachment 8880
$500 bucks for what is essentially bottom of the barrel stuff. You can get coilovers for a few hundred more. I am sure if you were to include the factory springs in the cost, the coilovers would be cheaper.
I'm at 86k miles now, and the junk is so blown out that I crash off the bumpstops practically at all times... I hate it so much.
I found some shocks. Do the shocks normally wear out before or after the struts?

Here's another one. It has the front struts and rear shocks. Maybe the official Mitsubishi site? Seems like it's less than the dealer though.

There's multiple people here on aftermarket suspension setups that include different brand components. Including shocks struts and springs. There's hundreds of threads dedicated to them.
Here's some no name oe replacement shocks that supposedly fit. You can even save $8/ea off factory name brand shocks!

If your gripe is "I can't buy Monroe sensitracks for $13!" Then don't complain about the OE stuff because you have no idea what cheap garbage is, and you'll regret bolting that junk on in no time anyways.
50k miles out of factory stuff is perfectly acceptable, and I don't think $500 for a OEM suspension makeover is out of line in the least. $125/corner is pretty cheap. Atleast, in my experience.
Where? All I see are high performance stuff that's very expensive.
Yeah, I already saw that one. As far as I can tell it's the only one and it's only shocks not struts. And it's Sabana Auto Parts from Puerto Rico. It's not really confidence inspiring. That's why I didn't list in in my previous post.
I went to RockAuto under Yaris which also has front struts and rear shocks. The best quality stuff totaled out to about $200 for front and back. From my experience those parts are much better than the OEM Mirage shocks and struts and almost a third the cost. If I had the OEM installed at my local dealer it'd probably cost over a $1000 for a maintenance item on an economy car! That doesn't seem good to me.
This car has been sold in multiple different countries for several years...right? Isn't this a very popular car in the Philippines? There has to be a manufacturer somewhere producing reasonably-priced aftermarket shocks and struts. A pair of decent rear shocks for this car shouldn't cost nearly $200.
Maybe someone from outside the US can help us out? What is the aftermarket parts selection like outside the US?
$200 for shocks does seem a bit steep....
TOKICO (OEM strut/shock mfr) lists the shock @ strut to fit, "lancer/colt/mirage"
http://www.tokico.biz/catalogue/index.html
A bit of googling and I'm wondering if any shock that fits a 2009-2015 mitsubishi lancer will bolt into the mirage with the spring seat cut off and top hat adaptor removed
Top hat you don't need
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rear-Suspens...NYt7Yf&vxp=mtr
This opens the door for $35 special-matics
Different vehicle weights. That would be nice though.
What are the negative consequences of driving with worn shocks? I'm thinking I can go another 20K on mine and then I'll pay the $500 for the crappy OEMs if no substitutes are available.
Don't forget about "motion ratio" or basically how the shock is leveraged. Which, in the mirages case would be "disadvantaged" set behind the spring. ( and not enough so)
It's an oil filled shock so position at rest doesn't matter, either. My guess would be mitsubishi buys premade shocks and adapts them however they need, which is how you end up with that top hat looking bs. The part number directly from tokico is the same for both cars so..
Just saying, maybe someone that works at a parts store could pull one out and look is all
Just posting a little update here since it applies. I've contacted aftermarket shock manufacturers and Tokico. More info here:

I haven't replaced struts ever, I don't have a mirage, but 260,000 mile on a 03 Malibu and 98 Stratus, 206,000 on my current Cobalt, though one is noisy it still works as it should. 1990 Sentra was told I they needed replaced by tire shop but didn't. I decided it could go thru a lot of $30 tires for the cost of the struts 200,000 miles. 150,000 97 Saturn never even looked at them. My current Cobalt is even the only car that I've ever even had the alignment checked at 200,000 (did one SUV). Been buying my own cars since 1987. .
IMO just throwing away money replacing struts/shocks unless they spill all of their oil.
Yeah, I did that and it seemed ok. I think this may be my imagination, just thinking about it too much.
That being said, I have a question about coilovers. Can you adjust coilovers so that I'll still have the same clearance and offroad "performance". I occasionally take my car on some rough dirt roads and I've heard comments about lower clearance with coilovers. I don't mind sacrificing some handling.
If a coilover kit is a better product and just a little bit more cash I'd consider it.
mine only lasted 60k here in NY replacing them now. cant get the bolts off myself so im gonna have to take it in to a shop
