Which other model year CVTs are interchangeable with 2015 Mirage?

The closest dealer from an hour away won't answer my calls so that's why I'm here asking this. Unfortunately, due to negligence from someone who put automatic transmission fluid in my 2015 Mirage CVT, I have to replace the entire thing now. I had the wrong fluid in it for a long time and the damage is now done. I'm looking at used transmissions from rockauto and car-part.com and I'm very happy with the prices ($600-$700 for low mileage CVTs versus $7k from the dealer!). However, is it okay if I use a CVT from a newer model year or do I have to stick with 2015s? I'm seeing lots of 2020 and 2021 CVTs in my area. Thanks in advance for the help!

Afaik they're all the same. 100% guaranteed 2014-2017 interchange. I'd try a newer one too without hesitation.

Me too, in fact I'd use any year CVT should I decide to convert my 5MT to an auto. I'd bet the ECU would just note the new device, register it and carry on.

I'd be easier to just buy a new car than convert either direction. Unless there's a stand alone tcu available for the cvt?

I saw, not long ago, a Mirage for sale where the owner went 5MT from CVT. I wish I could recall where, probably that site that auctions cars all over NA.

It would have been a typo or it didn't run. Or it was a vin swap... A mt to cvt swap isn't simple as just swapping the transmissions. Axles are different, entire under hood and under dash wiring harness, a 5speed car won't have a transmission control module(tcm), you might be able to reuse the etacs and ecu but they'll likely need to be reprogrammed or reflashed. Then add a shifter, shifter cable, possibly different speedo cluster.
It'd be easier and probably more cost effective to give your current car away and buy one with your preferred transmission already installed by a factory.

I wondered about the ad. It seemed too "easy" I take your word on a swap and will never foolishly try it.

I wish someone on this forum had no life because I'd find it highly amusing to see someone do a CVT to manual swap. It makes no sense to do and that's why no one has done it as far as I know.

I'm sure somewhere, somehow, this sounds like a challenge to someone :-))
