At 80 mph with A.C., yeah probably ~35 mpg I guess.

But there you go... even Mitsubishi was like "well the Mirage is more of a commuter... it doesnt need a tall highway gear" "they can use their Outlander for that!"
But if I’m not mistaken, the outlander manual has the same gear ratio?

FWD Outlander Sport had a 5-speed manual, but it also had a 2.0 L, 4-cylinder engine.

My 2000 Honda CR-V AWD 5-speed manual had a 2.0 L, 4-cylinder engine, too. They hum at somewhat higher RPMs, too.

I never drop below 40 mpg with my Mirage manual, but I seldom go 80 mph. Interstate roads in Wisconsin max out at 70 mph. Mirage does quite well (even with the A/C on) up to 75 mph. It's when you hit 80 mph the "economy" light on the dash disappears, and you know your little Mirage is really working!

If I did a lot of 80+ mph driving, I wouldn't own a Mirage. Even though I say that, I'm not inspired by anything else on the market today.

When I hang up my manual driving days, I might own my first Mazda. They aren't using CVTs, & I find that quite appealing! Plus, they go "Zoom Zoom"!

    My 2019 OS/RVR/ASX 5 speed manual is turning about about 2700rpm @60mph in 5th. 4000rpm in 5th is about 92mph.

I've done multiple roadtrips from Atlanta to Tampa Bay (8 hrs) and Atlanta to Charleston, SC (5.5 hrs) the Mirage is totally fine. I avg about 75 mph, AC on medium strength, and a podcast blaring. Zero issues. I also net about 38 mpg. My only advice is to invest in a high quality seat cushion, a bead wrap for the driver's seat, and an air bladder/cushion to support your lower back. I also get out and stretch every 3 or so hours too.

Just did a 600+ mile tour through Wisconsin,
Loaded down with firewood camping gear etc and going 65 or so basically the entire time my gauge said 42.x when I parked. (Which is on par for my previous trips)
On the way back we had shed a few hundred pounds of weight but went roughly 80mph the entire way back and the economy was pretty grim. Mid 30s I don't remember exact.

Speed really eats into the mpg, it's a choice between $ and time

    Follow up -

I did finally fill the car up, and it was just a skosh over 24.2 mpg. So I was right, it was in the same zone. Tis one helluva car.
