If you are referring to socket size, it's a 24mm for both the fill opening & drain bolts. I believe a 15/16" would work if you didn't have the metric size.
I would suggest removing the fill plug before draining the oil.
Post #76 has the best information in this thread below -

Am wanting to install a magnetic drain plug in the transmission so was trying to find the exact measurements.
Something like below:

Ahh and of course an old thread answers this:
https://mirageforum.com/forum/showth...n-plug-for-5MT
Drain plug size:
24mm
m18 1.5.

The MT has a large and powerful magnet built inside. If you want to add a magnetic plug, add it rather to the fill plug instead of the drain plug!
Reason is, if the magnetic drain plug protrudes a little more (too much) into the gearbox, it will get disintegrated and miriad magnetic pieces of ferrite will be distributed all over the insides of the MT. The fill plug can be a bit longer without being in the way of anything moving.

Measurements on both stock bolt and replacement is appreciated.
Stock length 12.2mm = also about max length for drain plug
Magnetic fill plug 14.5 is OK
The top link on post#3 looks far too long!

[QUOTE=foama;155548]Adding to Forma's information just a little - I changed out my manual transmission fluid this past weekend. I didn't measure the threads of the bolts, but they are not very long. The inside of the bolt/threaded area is also somewhat hollow. I do remember that quite well, because I took my air compressor & blew them out & made sure they were clear of any grains of sand that I may have picked up once they were removed.
In hindsight, I would have washed the underside of my car a little before starting, but it wasn't that bad. I have a road that was just re-surfaced with tar/pea gravel near me recently. It's a little more dusty than usual I guess.
I drained the manual transmission fluid & then the engine oil while I was under there. All together it was less than 5 quarts, because it all fit in an empty 5-quart jug afterwards. It was a 5,000 mile engine oil & 50,000 mile manual transmission oil interval that I was doing at the same time.
I've done the manual transmission fluid twice now, and it looks super clean. Personally, I wouldn't worry about adding a magnet drain plug, but that's me.
If you have the correct funnel and a good 24 mm (15/16") wrench, changing the manual transmission is simple! Both bolts look identical. The washers have seem good both times I have done this. I have felt no need to replace them.

UPDATE
Tried to install a magnetic transmission drain plug, installed on the top fill hole.
The extra length of the aftermarket plug stuck out so the car would not go into reverse.
Warning to all, aftermarket transmission drain plugs can interfere with the inside of the manual transmission, especially in the reverse gear.
Luckily I was able to remove and replace with the OEM drain plug with no damage.
