One of my local vendors can get that part for the Echo. They will let me return it if it don't work, so I will give it a shot.

Sounds good. Figured that might be quicker. I'll send over the one I have if that doesn't work out. If I remember I might pull the one from my black car and see if it's the same. Wonder if auto temp and manual controls have different resistors, I remember them being different in other cars.

Wow. Huge difference there between the two. The RU889 they list for my car looks like the one for Automatic climate controls.

Fixed! The RU244 resistor was an exact replacement and fixed my issues. Thanks for the research Fummins! I owe you a beer.

Stranger yet, I fell down a parts rabbit hole... I just looked up the mitsu part number MR513289 on rockauto and came up with a bunch of numbers. One mfg shows two different part numbers but the part appears the same. Both show as fitting 00-05 Echo along with a bunch of older Mitsubishi's but only one part number shows fitting some Mopar vehicles. One included an 06 caliber so I looked up resistor for and 06 Cailber and found came up with an RU560

I wonder what the difference between an RU560 and RU244 other than part number and price?

The standard interchange shows Ru244 crossing to MITSUBISHI:MR513289
TOYOTA:2468103010, 8713852010

And the Ru560 CHRYSLER:5191344AA

I'd still stick with the RU244, just curious as to the difference.

It seems like Mitsubishi is really weird about keeping their part fitment very convoluted.

UPDATE - The blower motor seemed to be working normally. This morning I let the car warm up and the fan was in the OFF position but the blower was on. Same exact symptoms as the original post. I went through the modes and the fan positions with no change. I went to work and swapped resistors again, but no change. I then started beating on the heater controls on the dash and the fan started working normally for about 10 seconds and then messed up again. Beat on it again and it behaved for about a minute.

I had enough time to remove the bezel to get to the controls. I sprayed contact cleaner in it and a little compressed air. Put it all back together and it worked. It worked all the way home. I just left about an hour ago to run to the store and it's back to the same issue.

Fummins. Do you have a dash heater control unit I could purchase?

That sucks! Reload parts cannon lol I might have some I can spare. I’ll see what I can see…. I did find a set not far from you for $35 though

Hello all thought I would add my 2 cents worth lol.

My car is a 2023, and also does this as well.
The fan blower runs even in the "off" position.

The car has no mechanical issues and I have replaced the coolant several times already on the advice of others in the forum with heater core issues.

I think this is some kind of standard thing not an error or mechanical failure.
