A note about the Montreal economy run: it's a pretty demanding contest -- no slow driving allowed (or you face time penalties which affect the final standings).
When I took my Insight in it in 2012 (with the hybrid system intentionally disabled -- making it a "gas only" car), we managed to squeak a first place finish, but it was practically the worst fuel economy for a fill-up I ever had in that car. I got better economy on the way to & from the contest itself!
2012 SMCC Montreal economy run results:
Results: 2000 Honda Insight, 3.09 L/100 km = 76 mpg US = 32 km/L = 91 mpg (Imperial)
The Mirage's numbers will be good, but may not be as high as the recent Vegas to L.A. Mirage hypermiling run. Which... Was... Slow.. And... Downhill.
The closest car to the Mirage for reference: in the 2012 Montreal run there was a 1.0L Geo Metro 5MT that got 3.72 L/100 km = 63 mpg US = 27 km/L = 76 mpg (Imperial).
I'm still really looking forward to it!

Maybe invite them to join and participate here, with people that own the car. Could be a good media plug for them and this forum as well. Just my thoughts.
Awesome on the loaner deal! Excited to see how you like it.

Congrats on scoring the car for a couple of weeks - just hope its a sweet little number like mine.
Unfortunately there seems to be the odd lemon that slips through going by some of the online comments.
Enjoy and looking forward to what you can squeeze out of it.

wow talk about pressure, an entire car manufacturer and at least all of us here watching your results. OK you have two months to get in shape! Do you have the car 2 weeks prior to the competition? correct me if im wrong, but wouldn't that competition be considered the world series of mpgs in North America??

I don't know why certain people's Mirage's aren't coming through for them. If it's ghastly mileage you're talkin' about then I think that people's driving habits might be getting in the way and prohibiting the best draw you can get. I just think that Mitsu's quality control is pretty tight, eh?
In my few fill-ups, I've gotten a couple of 31mpg and 32mpg. But those two I had the car full or partially full and driving in the freeway at 70-80mph.
I've gotten three above 40mpg, and another three 35-39mpg.
I just cant seem to drive slow. I'm still happy to be averaging above 35mpg.
