SoCal represented, purchased a Mirage DE last week.

    Hi,

I'm from Southern California & bought my Mirage last week. I got the DE model w/ ES alloy wheels & bluetooth for $14k total out the door. I felt this vehicle offered the most "car for the money" considering all of the features that come standard like remote keyless entry. I must say that the gearing on the Mirage is great for city driving and even merging on the CA freeways, however, it'd be nice if 5th was a bit taller for increased mpg when cruising long distances. My main concern thus far is related to the long-term satisfaction I'll experience with this car. I've previously only owned Honda & Toyota vehicles w/ my last car being a 2000 Toyota Echo that recently wouldn't pass smog but was still running great w/ ~250k mi on the odo. That car was pretty much bullet-proof.

Looking forward to learning more about my new car!
    Thank you,
    Mike

Join the chorus. Lots of us wish there was such an option.

What other cars were in contention? How come you didn't go for another Toyota after your good experience with the Echo?

    Darin

kali, the Echo was donated. My wife's very first car was a 2000 Echo also but hers was a 4dr w/ auto trans. Still used to this day by her parents when running errands. Very reliable cars.

Metro, I would've preferred a Yaris, however, MSRP of $15k for a vehicle w/ crank windows didn't sit well w/ me. Also, good luck finding a base model w/ a manual trans here in my area. Essentially, the $15K msrp base model yaris woulda been close to $17k out the door which woulda been a lil too pricey for me. I can only hope that my Mirage will at least come close to matching the dependability/longevity of a Yaris/Echo but only time will tell.

I hear you. Well, treat it nicely, change the oil and I'm sure it'll be fine.
