Question Warranty Question (what modifications will void my warranty?)

    So what breaks warranty?

I have NOT done any modifications yet, and because I love the warranty, and may or may not have paid for more warranty, I want to make sure that my future mods are not an issue for warranty work.

I reckon these would be electrical and mechanical (engine/suspension/steering/brakes) modifications, at the very least. Thing is, they have to prove that the modification in question impaired the car's operation, before they refuse the warranty coverage.

Simple aesthetic modifications may not void the warranty per se, but changing the body color altogether will definitely bid the warranty goodbye, since it involves disassembling the car.

Closed door respray doesn't involve taking anything off

Changing a car's color, where I live at least, involves stripping the car to the frame. A closed-door respray isn't going to cut it.

Either way, the Mitsubishi manual says it: change the color, kiss your warranty goodbye.

I ask because wheel+tire and suspension modifications will help the car, but also void warranty.

So the question is: are these modifications worth voiding the warranty? :O

Wheels and tyres out here don't void warranty, I go to plenty of tyre outlets and see brand new factory rims that have been traded towards after-market.
Suspension does void warranty. I am very tempted to get coilovers as the ride on bumps and that is rather annoying being so soft. I also love the look of a lowered car.

If you want to change the color, could you not just vinyl wrap it in the color/finish or even graphics of your liking? It is relatively inexpensive versus painting, labor and materials. It does not typically hurt the paint, as long as it is installed properly. (http://www.northwestautosalon.com/vehicle_wraps_faq/)

What about adding a rear sway bar?

It is indeed something the car needs, but only really for comfort, not safety.

Seems to me like it should only void the warranty of stuff it would touch or effect

Seems like US warranty is strict, over here, it is whatever gets replaced. So if I put coilovers on my car, the suspension part of the warranty is void, but everything else remains covered.
