    Audio improvement?

I'm ignorant about audio. I know there are components - head-amp-wires-speakers (and maybe bass), but don't know much about the interplay between them.

From a stock 2014 Mirage SE, to get somewhat better sound, would replacing any one of these components be noticeable? For example, would just new speakers be worth it, or just an amp - or would the whole system need replacing.

Put another way, is there anything that would make much difference for $200? $500?

I find the sound to be OK, I guess, but sometimes on the highway with my studded winter tires and the wind noise, the stereo is fighting for my attention. I suppose some sound deadening would be in order too.

Thanks for any suggestions. I'm going to see a car audio shop tomorrow to see what they say.

A few cans of undercoating and/or other sound deadener could probably do quite a bit of good for you and not add too much weight. To really get the most out of it, I would download a sound meter app for a smart phone and identify the noisiest areas of the cabin, then go about spraying or putting your sound deadener in that area.
Custom Mirage products: Cruise control kit, Glove box light, MAF sensor housing, Rear sway bar, Upper grill block

Current project: DIY Nitrous oxide setup for ~$100

I upgraded my speakers to JBL two way component for front and coaxial for back, no amp. With stock head unit the sound so much better, especially because of the tweeters. Recently i replaced the head unit with Kenwood DDX7017BT AV monitor, it sound worse than stock head unit (or maybe i don't find correct setting for equalizer yet).

Links please! I'm starting to think new speakers are the way to go.

I installed 2 sets of Sony 3-way Speakers and couldn't be happier. I'm still debating whether to switch out the head unit.

IMHO, the stock setup sounds pretty good. But it depends on what source you are listening to. The radio sounds bad...mp3/CD/streaming sound much better.

Does your car have the OEM Rockford-Fosgate subwoofer setup? If not, it might be something to look into.

How was the installation & fit? I understand there's not much room in the door and deep speakers can be a problem. Were any adapters needed? Where did you put the tweeter? It would be good to see photos of your installation.

Added more 12mm plywood adapters because the magnet hit the door. I put the crossovers hidden bellow the center panel (under cup holders).
I want to place the tweeters on door's sail panel but for now i just lay it on the dash (with addesive tape) near A pillar.

Do the speakers interfere with the window?
