(what if...) mitsubishi motor company leaving the US and parts availibility

Hi, posing a question for discussion. It seems Mitsubishi is struggling as a company compared to some others like Toyota, Honda even Kia in the US. My concern is that Mitsubishi will pull out of the US due to low sales here at some point in the next few years and then what will us Mirage owners due for parts ? How could that affect availability ? Where is this company headed in the next 10 years after I purchase a Mirage? Things don't seem great right now. Only one salesman in the dealership I was in. No commercials ever on the Tv. Will part availability be an issue in the future ? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks

I've read somewhere from a Mitsubishi representative that they will stay in the US no matter what. I guess it was much worse a couple of years back and they seem to be on the raise again, thx to the Mirage ;-)

I'm thinking that this is unlikely, and the brand seems to be doing well where I am, but as I know nothing about the auto industry, really, let's say it does happen and Mitsu pulls out of the North American market tomorrow.

This is still a world car, available in many markets. It has still been sold in some numbers here, and there are parts numbers for everything. Seems to me that there is/will be aftermarket versions of most parts available from the typical big parts stores. Sure, you will have a harder time finding a Mirage at a wrecker (Ford escorts were good for this), but basic parts are likely to be no problem at all. The US, especially, seems to have a really good network of auto supply - with parts available for just about every antique and rare auto every made. I think the Mirage, being made in large numbers and sold all over the world would not be difficult at all.

Suzuki owners remain covered for parts & warranty, despite the company's withdrawal from U.S./Canada last year: http://www.greencarreports.com/news/...eaving-the-u-s

That said... Mitsu president: "There is no way we are going to withdraw from the U.S. market."
(Though of course he would say that.)

Yet the company is seeing regular year-over-year double-digit sales increases in recent months: Mitsubishi Mirage monthly sales in US & Canada (projected 7000/yr for the U.S.)

Even if they pulled out (that's what she said), the fact that the Mirage is doing well in the Philippines was a good enough reason for me to get one. I can always overnight parts from home if I needed to.

On that point, Mitsu sold over 115,000 Mirages last year, globally, and it's increasing.

So I don't think parts scarcity is going to be a problem. Shipping may be an issue though if the parts aren't available locally.

Except the Evo is going bye bye.

My stepfather owns a diesel Mitsu pickup truck back in the Phils. I wish they'd send it over here.

Part availability is no longer an issue for any car period. There are 3d printers capable of printing in abs plastic, layered steel, aluminum, and other materials. As for pulling out if this bill passes in July they may not have the option to come back if they do, as bankruptcy and government bailouts won't exist for compa nies and i am sure they have taken that into account. I see at least 30% more mitsus than any other car in my town so i doubt heavily that they are struggling.
