    Another potential reason for the difference may be Japan's focus on fuel economy. The higher pressure would help slightly with fuel efficiency ratings, and Mitsu really played up the car's ratings in the home country.

    Lower pressure makes tyres work as an additional spring element, giving a much more "marshmallow ride", soemething folks in the US have gotten used to. In other parts of the world a "marshmallow ride" is totally unacceptable, just as the higher fuel consumption and higher blow-out risk that accompanies less-inflated tyres.

    My 1.0L always has 3.0 bar (44psi) tyre pressure, but the "soft" stock suspension is probably as close to a marshmallow ride as any light-weight car can get...
