    Mirage Hood Guard

    Hi Guys,

Newbie here. I noticed a guy installing this at a local dealership today. Thought you might be interested as I don't see a listing for this part through Mitsubishi.

It's a FormFit brand. It looks like you can buy from them directly although the website is currently being updated. It does show the part number but shows it as "coming".

    Hello Dale,

what exactly does this hood protection protect? Is it only the black strip? Maybe I don't get the idea and I would be happy if you could elaborate a little.

    thx and all the best

It's what some would call a "bug deflector". They are usually colored acrylic/plastic shields attached to the hoods of cars/trucks/vans.. etc.
they are supposed to help deflect bugs and (small) stones up over the windshield but in my experience they mostly protect the front edge of the hood from accumulated chipping/damage from bugs/stones/debris.
For the most part they are a cosmetic addition.
    Will weld for beer.

I think this nails it. They are quite popular in some areas. While some may add it for cosmetics, I suspect the main reason is to protect the hood edge from stone chips.

    Cheers,

    thx for the explanation.

I still think this is weird, though. You add this thing to only protect a small strip of your hood. The cross section seems to be quite small compared to the full front.

What does it look like, when you take it off after some time? Do you then have two bad regions, intersected by this small strip of defect free hood?

Personally, if I was serious about the protection aspect I would go for the 3M clear film as it covers and protects a larger area without being too noticeable.
