Question issues popping up around 5000 km.

    Hey all..
my 2014 Mirage has surpassed the 5000 km mark now and I'm noticing a few things.
I have the CVT trans and I'm starting to notice a "surging" sensation when using cruise. When I feel the surging I can see the tach needle bouncing slightly. It seems the trans is searching for the proper ratio to fight wind or uphill grades but cant make up its mind.
I have also noted a clunking noise in the front end when driving over divots or potholes at low speed. More so in the left wheel than the right... sounds a lot like bad strut or top bearing.
Has anyone noticed anything like the above with their CVTMirages?

    Will weld for beer.

No, but I'm only at about 400 miles. Sounds like your issues should be covered under warranty. Bring it in, and see what they say?

My Mirage has only logged a few hundred miles on the odometer thus far.

We do have an older Lancer with a clunk in the front end. It is due to broken front sway bar links. This is a common problem with that vintage Lancer, and is due to corrosion; flimsy parts; and pot holes jarring the suspension - which we have plenty of in my town.

I don't believe the Mirage has sway bars, which supposedly help control the car in higher speed turns. Might be something loose or broken in the suspension, which the dealer would fix under warranty.

The winter took a real toll on our roads. You literally have to drive city streets in a swerving fashion to avoid being swallowed up by a pot hole. We seem to have more patch than actual road on many of our streets. Funny how the city government always finds money to build something that they can put a plaque on with their names engraved, but claim poverty when it comes to basic maintenance items.

Good luck with solving the clunk issue. Hope it's something minor.

    Is your AC running?

The surge you are feeling may be from the AC turning on. I have felt this on day 3 or 4.

THEN I really realized how weak the engine is because of how much power is being used up for AC.

I've noticed a clunk at 58k miles - when making a hard right turn inti my driveway and over a small curb. Sounds sort of like a spring unloading or shifting. Not sure but don't think it's any big deal, just sort of annoying.

(o o p s. Thanks for noting the thread date Eggman.)

So, Ichabod. How did the CVT hunting ("surging") behavior work out?

Seems to be a normal trait of the CVT in cruise as it reacts/compensates for every little breeze and altitude change. My 2017 does it as well. Just a side effect of low HP and a CVT with budget programming. More to love.

The 14' spark we had started surging one day at highway speeds. Car had just over 100000kms(60000miles). Gradually started doing it more often, you could see the tach move a few hundred rpm when it did it. Gm dealer said the tranny was junk, the second one worked good for a few months then did the same thing, got a second new cvt under warranty then sold the car.
