This car excels in the rain!

Maybe it's the tiny thin tires, but golly, this car feels incredibly surefooted in the rain and crossing puddles. Maybe this shows its growing-market target (along with things like ride quality in rought roads). It's been raining a lot in the last couple of days, and this little car drives with aplomb through all of it. Zero aquaplaning, no squirreling around.

    Loving it even more.

Local owner says the same about performance in the snow. Narrow tires seem to cut a path through snow, resulting in good traction.

People think x8 rims with wide tyres means huge amounts of grip. It is actually the opposite in the wet, so the mirage have 5.5" or smaller gives it greater grip.
Is snow the same situation as rain with smaller tyres being better?

The 12" tires of the Ford Festivas ( Mazda 121 ) we had did very well in rain . Put studded snows on in the winter and flew through the snow . I think they were Yokohama snows . It was 20 years ago . It got rear ended at a red light during wet snow . Totaled it , only had a few payments to go for pay off . That was a '93 with the 5 speed manual .

Yes, this car with the skinny tires does awesome in the snow. We had record snowfall this past winter and this car totally rocked through the snow and on the icy roads. I recall being comfortable and the fastest car on the road if there was snow. It also does good on the rain, and we've had some here too. The narrow tires do indeed contribute to the lack of hydroplaning and cutting through the snow; the hand brake is a great tool in the snow and ice as well.

    Skinny tires rock!

About the only thing they don't do well is grip on dry surfaces. I'd gladly give up a bit of dry performance to avoid hydroplaning constantly!
