Old Mitsus were interference engines and had timing belts. Any idea if the Mirage uses a chain or belt?

Thanks. That's wonderful news since the belts, if they break, can ruin an engine, I'm told. Much more comfort is to be taken in the fact that it uses a chain!
Sorry I missed the thread. Feel free to merge these posts with that thread.
Timing belts are just unacceptable cost cutting measures. There's no reason every engine can not have a timing chain.
Glad that Mitsubishi uses a chain - otherwise they could have a Chevy Aveo situation on their hands.
Very happy to hear that it is a chain, timing chain's can go up to 500 000 km on a casual basis...

I'm glad the Mirage has a timing chain instead of a belt that needs costly replacement.
Honda and Toyota built their brands with timing belt driven cars for years. The belt made the engine run quieter than a chain driven engine, giving the impression of a quality product.
Both Honda and Toyota quickly moved on to non interference engine designs, where breakage of the belt didn't destroy the entire engine. Many brands - including Mitsubishi - could not or did not redesign their engines and remained timing belt time bombs.
Very glad this era in car making is ending. Replacing a timing belt is very costly for most vehicles. Failure to do it can be even more costly.
