Just wanted to point out that in the US there are no actual ''Required'' oil weights, its all ''Strongly Recommended''. What is also ''recommended'' is an oil with an ILSAC certification, and if that cant be found its recommended to use an API oil classification of SN or higher. Seems like in the US the lawyers have gotten rid of the word ''Required''. I also found that at idle the oil pressure must be at least 29 kPa (4.2 psi), and at 3,500 rpm the pressure must be between 294-686 kPa (42.7-99.4 psi). Anyone know how or where to install an oil pressure gauge?

just a question though and OT one. does mitsubishi void your warranty if you DYI in changing your oils and skipping PMS directly from mitsubishi casa?

It is my personal observation, with my personal Mirage, that its engine seems to perform, sound, and feel the best with these viscosities at these expected daily high (ambient) temperatures:
< 50F (10C) : 0W-20
50F-85F (10C-30C): 5W-30
85F+ (30C+): 10W-40
This observation is likely specific to the brand I use as well (Pennzoil Conventional, Yellow Bottle).
I've been using 5w-30, Dexos1, API SN Resource conserving, ILSAC5 FS oil, but will change to the latest version of Havoline Synthetic blend 5w-30 oil for the next oil change. The most important thing is, it must be at least API SN RC/ILSAC5 oil, though the latest Havoline synthetic blend is also Dexos1 certified in North America.
I did first oil change at 7600km using 5w-20 conventional oil and the engine is much quitter now, even if it is cold in Canada (-10 degree). And no difference in terms of MPG so far. Anyone tried 10w-30 oil on Mirage? I am thinking to try 10W-30 during summer time.

I haven't experimented with various oil viscosities, but I would agree with your suggestions. If you live in a climate where temperatures consistently drop below freezing, 0W-20 oil is the way to go.
Common sense tells me that 5W-30 would be a better option for the summer months, but I am not sure it is necessary. I prefer to do 5,000 mile oil changes. There are two maintenance schedules, & this interval falls somewhere in the middle of them. It's only 3 quarts, & it's so easy to change.
