Do you really turn off the engine while driving? Does the power steering and the other functions still work properly then? I know, that braking power will go down after braking one or two times. That´s why I would not turn off the engine but let it run with 750 rpm when putting the car in neutral and rolling down slight declines.

Riding in the slipstream of trucks shows the following fuel consumption figures with my Space Star 1.2:

    90 kph: < 3.5 l/100 km (67 mpg)
    < 80 kph: 3.0 l/100 km (78 mpg)

Therefore coasting would not make any sence in my opinion while driving on the highway - since it is much too dangerous on a german autobahn, too. Nobody would expect a car driving slower than 80 kph - not even truckers.

Furthermore I calculated the benefit of coasting for several engines and cars a time ago and there was nearly no benefit for small cars with small engines or even a disadvantage for fuel economy. Instead of coasting from 90 kph to 50 kph and accelerating back to 90 kph, in my opinion it would make more sence to drive 70 kph all the time, where fuel consumption is as low as 3.0 l/100 km (78 mpg).

Blocking the grill, retracting the mirrors, lowering the car, increasing the tire pressure and using oil with 0W40 specification instead of 10W40 motor oil would be the measures of my choice not to decrease the lifetime of the motor.

    Daihatsu Cuore L251:

Decided to fill at a quarter tank since I was running errands near a gas station.

    Drumroll please (Frrrrrrrrr)

I like the range estimate immediately after fillup!

680 miles because I had no reason to reset average MPG "A" and it was sitting on 79 MPGs.
So I think the trip computer is looking at avg.MPG "A" to make it's range estimate. ("B"reset to zero right before fillup at the pump).

Personal tank record for me after three consecutive 70+ MPG tanks.

Not bad for a car that has no hardcore eco modifications like alternator delete,A/C delete,P/S delete, boattail etc.

Car is in factory condition aside from smooth hubcaps, some grill block and maybe the mirrors folded

Grats 3dplane, that is crazy mpg numbers and 3 tanks in a row. keep it going it gives us all hope and shows us what is possible.

    Thanks for reading, Don

While mine is not nearly as high, it still shows what is possible with these cars without even really trying.

This is the total from my round trip commute of 22 miles. I drive on roads with speed limits of 60 mph to 40 mph, but most of my commute has a speed limit of 45-50 mph. Oh, this is also with 175/65/14 tires that are not low rolling resistance tires.
