Hi MetroMPG,
Info obtained as the results of this forum's launch. So, back then I did some MirageStalking and had a chance to actually speak with owners of these cars. Based on the sample size it seemed like ~20-25% had the airbag light issue and the fix was a front sensor. I also spoke with a Mitsubishi service department about a Mirage airbag light that was on and upon SRS scan guess what showed up? A front airbag sensor. This is when I found out that there was a backlog on that particular part, although the dealer did manage to "Rob Peter to pay Paul" and get said Mirage repaired asap.
There are a couple of references of the airbag complaint for new Mirages on the net as well, and, interestingly enough, Mitsu does appear to have somewhat of an airbag history even before the new Mirage. This is a temporary annoyance and should not deter someone from giving the Mirage a serious spot in their list of possible new cars to own.

Luckily - no... Sensors are located right up front by your radiator support (also, see page 2-39 in the 1.4lb Mirage owner's manual). Seriously, if you have the part and ratchet/socket in-hand, maybe 6 minutes to actually remove & replace. (As with anything electrical a harness problem could me more involved..)
