    Brand new car-check engine soon?

I've had my Mirage for about a month now and have 774 miles on it. Today I noticed that the "check engine soon" light is on. I checked that my gas cap was tight and the light is still on. Any ideas?

Why not just go to your dealer?

If it's not convenient to do that, I'd borrow a scan tool and read the code.

You can get codes read for free at Pep Boys parts stores in the U.S. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong!)

Please let us know what code you find.

    And welcome to the forum!

Also Autozone and most local auto shops would scan codes free.

If it's under warranty and a dealer is near, why wouldn't you just take it in? Could be something wrong and it's free.

I'll take it back into the dealership of course since it's under warranty but I just wondered if anyone had any idea as to why the light was on. Hopefully it will something simple.

It is almost impossible to know the reason for the light to turn on unless you use a scan tool. As other said, you could stop by Autoparts, Autozone, etc and have them scan it for free.

    R01k's right.

That light only indicates the computer detected a problem somewhere. The only way to know what it is is to plug in a scan tool to read a trouble code, then look up what the code refers to.

Personally I would NEVER take a car under warranty to a parts dealer (Autozone etc..). If by some unlikely circumstance (their scantool has a short etc...), and they fry something your warranty would be void. I know this is HIGHLY unlikely, but why chance it?
    Bye
