The AC "off" switch also act as a getho boost switch

I loaded down an Olds Cutlass Cierra once and tried to climb a mountain. That 3spd auto directed the 110hp for all they were worth, but 70km/h with the foot to the floor was all it could do. At that, if the a/c was on it stuttered but with the a/c off we chugged along slowly but surely. On the flatter spots we ran the a/c to cool off a bit, and on the uphills we turned it down. I'm not sure what highway that was now, but we were heading to Moab, Utah from the east. I think the Mirage might be better as it weighs a lot less!

Olds Cutlass Cierra ... sounds like a car weighs around 3,5 tons and with 110 HP? It sounded like even the Mirage 1.0L wins in power to weight ratio hehehehe

Yup, that Olds was a funny one. The 4cyl engine was lost in the huge space under the hood, and despite being longer and wider than many modern cars, it had very little space in the trunk or for passengers. I will say this though - it was a trooper that never gave up. That cast iron block and 3spd slushbox just refused to die. I let it go after only 15 years (transmission shop lied to me), but I know it ran for another 3 before I lost track of it. I like to think it is cruising a back road as we speak.

    It was slow, though.

It does sounded like old cars. I remember having to get out of the car (everyone but my dad as driver) to be able to get the car up the hill. We would have to walked following the car from behind while it's creeping hill-up. It was an old diesel but it's unimaginable especially nowadays where diesel are well known for the torque.

I wish I could turn off the compressor while the max defrost is on.
Anybody set up a switch for that yet ?

Also, I'm not thrilled with the climate control system. I fully expect it to give me trouble sooner or later.
I want manual control, give me the old school knobs / sliders...

You can turn off the automatic climate control. That gives you full manual control of the system.

Most of the time I just use the "Off" button, but I've found it's actually not all that much different from the old school setup. It's just buttons and a temp reading instead of sliders and dials.

Please tell me how to make all the air come out the windshield vent with the A/C compressor off.
I've looked at the owners manual, and didn't see a way to do that.

When in "off" mode, does the temp number just represent a fixed blen-door position ?
If that's the case, I am happy !!!

I still like knobs / sliders though
