I noticed most cars out of US and EU have the 175/65/14 vs the bs 165/65/14. In Mexico(Dodge Attitude) and Philippines(Mirage G4) tires are stock 175/65/14

I'm going to guess it's due to a combination of two factors:

    1. 165/65R14 are more fuel efficient.
    2. EU & US markets, especially in this segment, can value fuel efficiency.

    Beginning LOW COST tire experiment.
175/65R-14 Milestar MS932 Sports. $160 shipped from Simpletire (yes, all four)
initial quality appears to be quite good.
Used a civic hub to mount wheels between the cones on my static balancer.
Verified heavy spot on rims. Not always at the TP sensor as you may expect.
Two of the wheels took 1oz. One took 1/2 oz. One needed no weights.
    Tire calc says +2.3% circumference.
GPS showing 51mph@50 indicated. with 60k on Enasave's, they were 49.5mph@50 indicated.
At 35psi, smooth as a babys bottom, quiet, nice ride. Will up pressure and see.
Coasting distances slightly reduced, acceleration slightly slower, subtle, not an issue for me. (Expected)Name: 20170820_125853.jpg

    Effect on fuel burn TBD.

    Milestar el-cheapo update.
At 35psi, I was beginning to change my mind about the degraded performance being "not an issue".
Upped pressure to 45psi from 35. (Tire rated for 44psi max)
Improved coasting and acceleration. Ride quality still good.
Now, I like it enough to keep the experiment going.

If I were to do it over, I'd try the Laufenn "G FIT AS" instead, as they are rated for 51psi.
IMO ,sadly, the 175/65 is as close as it gets to a practical alternative size for the OEM wheels.
I'd seen mention of 185/70R-14's on a Mirage, I'd guess that didn't work out so well.

I did this as soon as I got my Mirage, even with the stock Dunlop Ena-sucks. Made a lot of difference mpg-wise, even with the LRR tires.

I normally run my tires at max pressure, but my car isn't used on the freeway.

Has anyone tried 185/70r14 tires? I'd like to get the tallest tire possible for winter snow - mainly to provide clearance through icy ruts and deeper snow. Currently my winter tires are 155/80r13, which is just a hair taller than stock, and I'd like to get a bit more height still. I prefer tall and narrow, but there are limits to what is available. Ideally I'd like to get some Nokian Hakkapellitas.

Thats way to too tall. Try 175/65/14

Do you know for sure it won't fit, or just an educated guess?

It seems 175/70r14 is another possibility.

Try plugging your numbers in at this website: http://www.willtheyfit.com/

    The stock wheels are 14 x 4.5 inches with a 46mm offset.

185-70-14s are about 45mm (1.8 inches) taller than your OEM 165-65-14 tires. I'm guessing those would fit.
