    Another lesson learned

Well yesterday I had my two front tires replaced for a total cost of $252. The front tires got pretty bald and I'm only @9900 miles. This wasn't due to the tire itself, like Psi or something. This was purely due to poor driving on my part. The Dunlop Enasaves are really not meant for popping the clutch lol. Luckily the lesson was learned and my dealership took about 40 mins, they had about 8-9 Enasaves in stock.

I’d venture to say that the clutch won’t take much abuse either and the cost to replace it would be over a thousand US Dollars at a dealer.

Yeah I hear you man, I've gotten better at driving this car for what it was meant for. I'm getting around 46mpg, shifting softly, keeping the revs low.

Wow that is quite unusual wear for 9900 miles. I only have 12,500 miles on mine and they look brand new, Im thinking I can def get at least 40k miles out of them if I can avoid a sidewall puncture.

If you look on simpletire you can find several brands for under 50$ per tire. Also I see on eBay you can get the Federals for around 50 dollars apiece. THe local indy tire "flat fixing" shop over here charges 20 dollars per tire to mount and balance them. That dealership actually did not hose you as bad as they could have. Plenty of dealers would have you "on the hook" for $300+ to change 2 tires.

But certainly you should take a look at your driving habits and modify them. You dont want to be taking tight turns at high speed or slamming the brakes on. Else its going to get real expensive for you and car wont last as long

Has your car ever had an alignment?

It doesn't matter how few miles are on the car. Based on alignment numbers posted by owners, the overwhelming majority of Mirages leave the factory with the front end needing an alignment adjustment.

If you are the original owner and have had the car for less than 12 months and 12,000 miles, the dealer will check it for free. And be sure to verify that your rear alignment is also within spec. Even if you have to pay for an alignment, it is money well spent.

Anyone who owns a Mirage and has never had their alignment checked has a good chance of throwing money out the window on unnecessary tire wear.

If that's the kind of driving you do, it's pointless to use Enasaves. Get a proper performance tire. (it might not wear any longer... but, at least it will feel better doing it!)

When we had our tire emergency last month and decided to replace all 4 I was surprised Dolores with around 20000 miles alignment was all in spec...

Eventually I will get better tires for the summer, probably 185/55/R15s after looking through the threads and my own thread about it lol

I think your main lesson to learn is to learn to drive gently.

I would direct you to some of the threads on hypermiling. These are efficient driving techniques that will save fuel, save wear and tear on the tires, clutch and brakes. And it is safe driving that will dramaticaly lower your odds of getting into a car crash. You may arrive to your destination 5 minutes later but you will arrive safely, no speeding tickets and no body damage.

You are going to save alot of money, get pulled over less frequently and pay lower insurance rates. Buy a motorcycle if you want thrills and adrenaline. But drive the Mirage gently and see it as a transportation vehicle to get from point A to point B.

I only partially agree with the above statement.

But, yes, drive like a sane person on the street. If you want to play, find an autocross or something!
