I did some playing around with math, and I find that a 185/60r14 tire should be 1/4" (6mm) taller than the stock tires. 176/65R14 should be about 1/2" taller, and this is a VERY common size. I can get them locally for about $45 each. 175/60R14 will be slightly smaller than stock, less than 1/4".

The dealer I bought my car from seems to be selling four of the stock size tires, mounted, for $129 right now.

Stephanie, do you have a Les swabbed tire? I had my low pressure light come on and I thought it was a nail come to find out it was the change in weather. I asked them if they had that tire they said they could order it.or put the 170, 14,s on it.

    I. Think it wouldn't change anything on the mileage as long as you change all four

There are a few tire size calculators out there. One I use all the time is 1010tires.com

If you're staying within the 14" range, here are some choices:
    http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Tire-...0R14/185-55R14

It seems like yor best bet is 185-60-14, which will be 1.32% faster - meaning if you're driving 62.14mph, the actual speed will be 62.95mph. Not too bad IMO.

Stephanie, I had a similar thing happen to me, hence my thread "Don't get a flat".

I ended up going with a set of 175/65/14 tires that ran me a total of $320 after mounting, road hazard warranty, lifetime balancing, and taxes. This size is a LOT more common and easier to find just about anywhere, but it does throw the speedometer off by a little over 1 mph at 60 mph. I have found that it actually makes the speedometer be 100% spot on now.

When these tires wear out I'll be going with a 175/70/14 or maybe even a 185/70/14 which is quit a bit taller and it will throw my speedometer off even more, but it will give me more ground clearance which is what I am looking for.

    My 175-65-14

I was told I could switch all four of my tires to 170/70 r14 for the same price of one tire. I am considering this because it would be less of a hassle to continue purchasing this size.

Has anyone ever converted to this size? If so, did it mess with your speedometer?

Has anyone ever switched to a 15 rim?

I have had two tires replaced since I bought my mirage in april, replacing the 165/65/14 with 175/65/14. I have noticed no drop in city fuel mileage(still getting upwards of 44MPG) Highway is hard to say because it is also colder now, about avg. 49mpg.

Would a 170/70 work ok on the original steel wheels. Would under body clearance be a
problem? The tire size is not a lot different.

I ended up opting for 4 new 170/75 r14's. I now have 3 original tires for sale! (1,800 miles on them.)

175/70/14 will work on the stock rims with no clearance issues. There are no 170 tires available.

    175/70/14?

These should give about a 3/4" lift in overall ride height compared to the stock tires. Do you have any pictures of them on the car?
