I've decided to look into getting a magnetic drain plug for my transmission, but I figured I'd ask here if anyone already uses one to eliminate the guesswork about which one would fit.

EDIT, not 100% but I think the second link engine/transmission combo kit only fits the engine and the transmission is too small

I messaged this seller on ebay about the drain plug size. Research has shown that 24MM hex head bolts in most Japanese applications have a M18 1.5MM thread.

I'm tempted to pull off the fill plug to check, since I believe both are the same bolts.

I removed a bunch of drain plugs at the junkyard today.
All of them were 24mm of course.
1 1992 Mtsubishi 3000GT 5 speed , not magnetic
1 1993 Isuzu trooper front axle and rear axle not magnetic
1 1995 isuzu rodeo front axle not magnetic
Nissan pathfinder used a square drive (I didn't try to take it out)
1992 Toyota pickup rear differential -not magnetic
1994 Toyota 4runner v6 4x4 front differential (its on the very bottom of the housing facing the ground) MAGNETIC! At last! it seems to have the same threads which I assume are M18 1.5. It doesn't have a distinctive looking magnet but it does have one. I couldn't get to the rear differential unfortunately.
I did take a drain plug from the Isuzu Rodeo because it had a huge hex (less chance of rounding it off), I might use this as my future fill plug, my mechanic side is telling me to add a tiny bit of anti seize to the threads, I hope it doesn't affect anything.

Did my transmission fluid change just now, walmart parking lot of course (Sucks not having a driveway). The drain plug was identical to the 4 runner's axle drain plug. I reused both aluminum crush washers ( normally get a few uses out of them ) that are vital to making a good seal.
Now I have the first F5MBD with a magnetic drain plug! Or so I think
I want to find a square head drain plug if possible, I only have one 24mm socket, but I have like 8 3/8 ratchets and it's almost impossible to strip a 3/8 square.

I'll try to get the exact thread size based off my old drain plug tomorrow. My transmission seems to enjoy the redline fluid, shifts are a little smoother and the transmission is a little quieter.

I'm not used to drive by wire holding the throttle a little when I shift, and I am not perfect with my clutch engagement as well.
This is 8 miles after changing my transmission fluid been itching to see what the Mirage had but wanted to wait until I get over 1k and fresh tranny fluid.

Question for clarification:
Does the MT have a magnetic drain plug or does it not??
From the factory, it does not.
Alex: If you can confirm the thread size, that would be awesome. I'll probably get that Power **** Racing plug you linked to.

It is verified by Napa m18 1.5.
I am going to check Honda automatic transmission drain plugs, I think they might be 3/8 magnetic m18 1.5
