'Tong' sound when I shift to first or second gear

Hi all, my Mirage is doing a "tong" sound when I put in first. It is happening mainly when I am stationary and I don't accelerate enough, same thing happens if i shift up to the second. I can hear this sound when I release the clutch, thanks in advance for your help

Can you post of video of this? It might help others understand what's going on.

Sounds like you're just talking about the typical **** Mitsubishi trans feel. Shifting into 1st and R makes a thud sound and is often hard to do even on new cars when not warmed up. 1st shouldnt be hard to get into but it makes a audible sound. Every gear on my 4th gen eclipse has always made a sound going into gear. I find it super satisfying though -_-

This may not be what you're talking about at all though if it just recently developed.

I'll have to listen for that. It will be very cold (for the Midwest) the next ten days or so. My shifter feels notchy / clunky.

That's not unusual for a new F5MDB standard transmission. This should ease up when it's broken in.

Thank you all for your replies, I tried to record the sound without success, it is not loud. It is happening when I shift up the first and the second, it is like a tug

This is exactly what it's happening to mine: cluncky when you shift up the first and the second, here we got between -3°c and 3°c hopefully in summer will be better! It is a noisy gearbox
