My slowest car was a FIAT 500, built maybe 1968 with 14(?) hp. I bought the old thing for a few hundred bucks. It had an air-cooled 2cyl engine that vibrated about 10cm (4 ins) up and down in idle. With strong wind from behind it reached about 105km/h on a flat road. It was very reliable, although it had starting problems in winter due to the heavily worn engine with its poor compression.
Without that car, I could not have been able to travel to work, although I could barely afford it. It consumed about 5 1/2 liters per 100km.

That must have been something to see!

A 1992 Hyundai Excel. Owned while living in florida. And it was a great debate...use the AC or get rear-endend for going dangerously slow.

I didn't realize the engine was so small.
In 83' they were small and gutless, and even smaller in the older one. I bought it as an 87, didn't do a lot of research on that deal. I wanted a samurai not an sj cause you can easily put a 16v sidekick or even a turbo firefly engine in if you can find one.

    1982 VW Vanagon Diesel Westfalia.
I sincerely doubt there was ever a slower vehicle sold at anytime in the USA.
I test drove one with a fresh rebuilt motor.
    WOW.

a gutless old 67 Bronco. cool looking beast, but so tired (it was in the mid-90s that I owned it). it almost got me into a couple accidents by not being able to accelerate properly, and once , on the highway, the brakes completely failed. Luckily I was able to coast down.

The slowest car I've ever owned was my first... a 1977 Plymouth Volare. The best I can tell, it was rated at 90 hp from the factory. By the time I purchased mine (1984), 90 was a pipe dream. You had to plan ahead for any incline, including speed bumps. (picture is stock photo... no known photos exist of the "Red Baron")

Since I was literally JUST talking about this with a friend this morning (then saw this thread), the slowest car I have ever owned was a 1979 Honda Civic 1200 with the Hondamatic transmission. It wasn't quite an automatic, it wasn't really a manual. There was no clutch and you had to manually move the shifter from 1 to 2. There were only two forward gears. It was glacial. It had 60 hp. 145/80/12 tires—makes the Mirage's 14s look like dubs!

Slowest car I ever drove would have to be either the Civic or possibly a 1980s Suzuki Samurai. When I test drove it, my friend said, "If it won't do 45, then it's a bad engine." I remembered thinking—really? 45? Well, low and behold, it wouldn't. We didn't buy it. Now that I think about it, my friends 1978 VW Rabbit diesel was amazingly pokey.

FYI, my '89 Mitsubishi Delica is also very slow. It weighs 4,000 lbs. and has 90 hp and 148 ft/lbs. of torque. Top speed is a terrifying 86 mph.

I recently bought a 1995 Wrangler. It has the 2.5L engine and manual trans. Sitting on 35'' tires it is quite possibly the slowest thing I have driven. It was regeared to 4.88 and it will get to 30 in a hurry, but anything after that is a no. There's a 3 mile flat stretch by me. Foot-to-the-floor, I was able to hit 60 after about 2 miles.
