Having a chain was a pretty solid plus when deciding on the mirage for me.
That's one of the big reasons we went with the mirage as well. I'd have had to change a belt 3 times in one car already had we went with a timing belt car with 100000km belt intervals. I'm wondering how long the tensioner/s will last. I've never had the timing cover off one yet. Same goes for valve cover and oil pan.

With some 3-cyl 1.0L OPEL Corsa engines, the chain wore out much faster if the oil level was kept just above the lower mark. Those who kept the oil level up to the top mark usually had no problems with the chain and that engine.
Don't know how this applies to the Mirage though. My 1.0L Mirage uses practically no oil, so the level keeps maintained.

Call my family unlucky, but every Saturn/Honda belt failed before the required replacement interval. My MIL was livid when told the cost to fix her engine. Also had a cousin with the Honda/Saturn that get all bent up when the belt went. It was past the change interval but still...

I've heard of ppl going well over 200k on a BELT before it finally broke but I hate gambling and am glad I have a chain. Nothing like the double row chain with metal guides my 82 Toyota pickup had but a chain none the less.
