    Basic questions about TPMS

I want to put some used winter tires/wheels on the Mirage. I assume they won't have TPMS sensors or if they do not the right kind.

Are the sensors the sort that regularly transmit an "All good" message to keep the dash light off, or are they the sort that stay silent until they send an "Emergency in sector 7 - low tire pressure" message? What I really want to know is if the tpms light will stay on all winter if I go this route (no sensors). Also, if the light will stay on, should I take the used tires to the dealer or a shop to get new sensors put in? Would this work? Is it expensive?

    Thanks!

If the wheels don't have TPMS, the light will stay on. It doesn't hurt anything, but it depends on whether or not the light will annoy you.

Thanks. I wonder if my scan-gauge will turn the light off? I think the light would bother me less than spending $100s on something I could do at a gas station for free!

That is fantastic! I checked on tire-rack and it seems like shutting it off will save me $200 or so, or the aggravation of a continually on dash light. Thanks again.

You will need to "download your *.kon file from your etacs unit using the dealership MUT-3 and after you modify the data, flash it back to your etacs

That's odd because I have been using used Honda rims for snows (with no TPMS sensors) from day one and have had no warning light triggered. Are some Canadian Provinces exempt from the TPMS requirement?I'd say my car never had them....

Your car have TPMS off mode enabled. It will automatically active once you've fitted with TPMS sensor installed wheels,...

That is interesting. I don't actually know if I have them or not - assumed I did because it is mentioned in the owner's manual. I'll have to check . . . not right now because it is -30C outside, but soon. Incidentally, it started like a champ at -30 (plugged in, of course), but the suspension is (like all cars) rather rough at that temp!
