I have the 1.0 MT Mirage, and I've had several Suzuki Swift (Metro) with the 3cyl engine, and some with 1.3 and the 16v 1.6l 4cyl. The 3cyl model Suzuki Swift was marketed in the states as Geo Metro, and is practically the same.
The fuel consumption with my Metro/Swift 1.0 3cyl was around 10 to 15% higher than the Mirage/SpaceStar under similar conditions.

In my daily commute to work, I average about 43 MPG, or 18km/l. The OP is either driving in a worst-case scenario or isn't being honest about his/her driving.

If you know how to drive an manual right, chances are you will get better mileage than an automatic. This has always been the case. Why believe anything else? If you want to save money, get the manual as it is $1,000 cheaper to begin with. Even if the CVT would somehow get a little bit better mileage, just how many years do you think you would have to drive the car to recoup that extra $1,000 anyway?

The first time I heard the best reason. Totally agrees

My manual mirage gets me 40 mpg if I drive it like an idiot teenager. If I drive carefully and try to get the best mileage, run 65 mph and the weather is warm, I can easily get 50 mpg.

If I use every trick I read about on ecomodder and drive my mirage in an irritating and borderline illegal fashion I can see 65 mpg.

These numbers are from driving, filling the tank, and doing the calculation, not using the display. The display is reasonably accurate though.

My metro had the head shaved to get higher compression, tires running 50 PSI, air intake temp sensor replaced with a resistor telling the ECU it was 130 degrees outside, both mirrors stripped, grille block, headlight bucket covers... and it got the same numbers as the mirage. Without having air conditioning, the power to get out of it's own way, or a modicum of safety in an accident, either.

You have to realize NOTHING is Fully Garrantyed ,when they state that!!! My Mirage does FAR Better then what they said on the sticker in the window!!! My MPG is greater! Around town I get 35 to 38mpg and freeway I get 51.2 MPG and I have the CVT. The cvt is the Best automatic in small cars !!!then they were years ago
