As part of the process to get my rear axle replaced, I sent an old fashioned snail mail letter to Mitsubishi corporate in CA. Within 10 days, new axle installed on car.

you guys have more recourse to make trouble for them if they give you the run-around. up here in the lemon-lawless great white north, class action lawsuits, usually started by americans, are generally the only way that we get "justice". a perfect example is the faulty ignition switches on some GM vehicles a few years back.

I got my alignment checked finally after getting my rear axle replaced under warranty and I am happy to report that it is within specs. The alignment is now:
Right Tow: -0.17
Right Camber: -0.61
Left Tow: -0.19
Left Camber: -.55
MUCH better than before.
I'm still unhappy about it being far from 0 toe as I'm sure it could be better, but for now it is within there generous specs, and that means they did do their job.
I'll probably still rig up something to straighten it even more, but I can confirm my replacement axle is much better than before.

I spoke with the service manager, who will be addressing the issue with Mitsubishi directly. I am hopeful they will come to some sort of resolution. I also got this from Mitsubishi Canada, which is not too promising:
Dear _________,
We are unaware there is a defect in the design of the rear axle on our Mirage. If you are having issues with the wheel alignment, we suggest that you bring your car to a Mitsubishi dealership for inspection.
Thank you again for contacting Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada, Inc.

No lemon law in this province. Not sure about Manitoba.
