And here's the expanded view where you can see the bearing axle attached to the beam:

I know they had issues like this with ford twin I beam front suspension, they would heat up the beams and ratchet them to spec at ford dealerships. They told me they were never "heat treated" and were so thick torching them a little to bend them wouldn't hurt them.

I need to find one of these axles in a salvage yard. I could make one with unit bearings and the ability to shim them. Guess i will go poke some junkyards...

What are the rear alihnment specs, and can you share some of the values that you've measured?

    Sure!

    My Mirage rear measurment:

Specs are the small numbers in upper corners of green (good) and red (out of spec) boxes:

I got tired of listening to my tire howling noise and I did something drastic and redneck to my rear beam that I'm not going to show here due to liability if someone tries to copy, but I can say that I am forcing the rear to stay in specs by a steel cable and I put a pair of tires on the rear (saved the old ones for mitsubishi warranty in the future) and this is what mine looks like:

The car rolls better,my MPGs went up! And it is QUIET!

Until mitsu comes out with a fix. They are working on it,today my collegue told me they requested (Mitsu) the alignment print from another mirage we reported so that's a good sign!

    Thanks!

Wow, that's worse than mine. I have a printout from 8/8/14 that shows my toe at 0.22 and 0.12, then one from my most recent alignment after installing the Tein springs at 0.41 and 0.36. I have access to an alignment rack at my work (actually did my last alignment myself for practice), so I'm half tempted to try a couple things to tweak the toe. Name: IMG_3888.jpg

Thanks guys. I'll maybe have my dealer measure mine and add to the complaints to Mitsubishi.

How stiff are the trailing arm rubber bushes in the axial direction? I woner if there is any scope for grinding something off the center bushing on the outside and adding washers on the inside. i like the steel cable idea better than accidentally juacking the car up on the torsion beam :-).

I think its great how you guys are approaching this, trying to work with Mitsu to fix the problem, not complaining and bashing them. Hopefully they respond in a similar manner and fix the issue.

As expected, the mechanic at the dealership couldn't find any viable fix (they can't go to extreme measures like 3dplane).

I told them about the growing frequency of the issue as discussed here and they are going to submit the report to Mitsubishi. However, it's the first time they encounter this problem (although I don't think they've sold too many Mirages).

As for my alignment, the passenger rear wheel is 0.17° beyond the tolerable positive toe, as you can see in the picture:
