For what it's worth, the '17s still use the welded rear stub axles. I stopped by my dealership and they had one orange '17 ES manual.
It wasn't raining (for a change), so I snapped a pic of the rear suspension, and it looks the same as the '14-'15s?

#19 Mirage that I see with my own eyes set up on the alignment machine.
Built in February of 2015. Less than 7K miles on it.
Almost good but nope, I still have not seen a good one yet.
I know it is only 0.03 degrees away from a green sheet but still no cigar.

I see the problem as how they welded the stub axles to the trailing arms. To be absolutely consistent you need to have the weld start and stop in exactly the same place. The stub axles need to be held solidly as they cool from the welding and then they need to be checked before assembly to make sure they are in the center of the allowable specifications.

I'm new to the neighborhood. I haven't even taken delivery of my Mirage yet, but after reading every post in this thread I'm glad I opted for the prepaid maintenance package from my dealer. Among other things it included four years of alignment checks. I can stay on top of this situation if it is a problem in my car without having to come out of pocket each time they check the alignment. Of course, I'm going to have them check the alignment before I take delivery of the car...
