I'd love a Nissan Leaf or a Mitsubishi IMiev .... There's only one problem... A brand new IMiev in Australia is $54 000..... NO I"M NOT KIDDING.... You can pick them up for around $30 000 second hand......

Our Nissan Leaf's are all 2012 models and they're the base model and they're still trying to charge $39 000 in 2015 even thought the battery technology is over four years old....

To buy a Tesla in Australia it starts at $130 000 up to $200 000....

My family loves electric..... We all have Electric Scooters, my Husband has a Tomahawke, My eldest son has a Patgear, I have a Revo Scooter with Lithium Battery, and my youngest son has a Razor Three Wheeler..... They're so much fun, and I was disappointed with Australia and their ability to price people out of buying an electric.....

they really like to milk you guys down under when it comes to certain import cars. I was watching a video where an auzzie guy was reviewing a ford F350 in the lariat trim. it costed AU$120 000! in Canada, where our dollar is worth about the same as yours, the same truck is just over half the price, and in the states, almost ten grand less for them. one thing I've noticed from watching Australian dash cam vids (yeah, sad, I know ) is that you have some really nice compact pick up trucks that aren't available in the north American market.

sorry for going OT in your thread david. I do love your car. it's awesome and i'd like to own it. same color too!

Thanks for the update, davidricardo. Glad you're still enjoying the car.

I recently picked up a cheap '04 Prius to use as winter wheels, and one of the first mods I did to it was to install the "EV mode" switch. Not that the car has much electric range to speak of, but it's nice & sometimes useful to be able to push the button when I need to move the car from the street to the driveway or something like that and don't want the gas engine to come on.

And yes, laceygirl you guys sure get taken for a ride on some import prices. I watched a video review of a Chevy Volt from Oz... the reviewer liked it, but the price was shocking. No pun intended

They're cool cars my issue just happens to be that the battery isn't larger enough to be useful to me. I live in the city but, I also still need to be able to at least go 100 to 120 miles on average any given day.

I was looking really hard and I almost convinced myself to get a black used 2012 imiev but, I couldn't find one for $5000 unless I wanted white.

    got to drive an iMIEV!

    Hey davidricardo86 ...

I got to drive one yesterday!

It was very cool. Long wheelbase, soft suspension made it very smooth riding -- it actually immediately reminded me of the Mirage in that respect. "Small car, big car ride."

I was disappointed by the fact that there's no energy consumption meter in the car. Even if I'm driving an ultra-efficient electric car, I want to be able to play the "how low can I get my consumption" game using a resettable gauge. Heck, even the Mirage has TWO such gauges (the resettable "A" and "B" MPG gauges.)

Not a ton of power, but perfectly adequate. A first time experience: I noticed I could hear the tires "slipping" when flooring it from a stop (windows down). There's not enough power to spin the wheels, but there's enough that you can hear them struggling for grip. That was neat. You would probably never hear the tires of a combustion vehicle slipping over the roar of the engine.

I REALLY like the styling in person: I know it's a polarizing design, but it looks a bit like a happy alien space pod to me, and I dig it. I much prefer the way it looks vs. the Leaf and the Bolt.

Coincidentally, I also got to drive a friend's Bolt this week.

I test drove a used i-Miev a couple of months back. I liked it and seriously thought about getting one for myself. The Mirage got there first though.
