I bought Lisle filter (63600) tool from auto zone that got mine loose. I had a replacement, but the original filter was fine so I drained it and put it back on the car. A cap wrench wouldn't touch it, just slipped. Not sure whether it was tight or lacked some lubricant on the seal. Draining the filter got the oil level down to the full mark. I'll probably change it at 5k miles. The Mobil 1 0w20 was on sale so I picked up 5 quarts and a Bosch filter.

    regards

change the filter to a k& n that has a nut on the end and you can use a socket to remove it

    Why the hassle?
The easiest way to change a Mirage oilfilter is by using a size 65/14 filter cap, and that cap costs about the same as an aftermarket oil filter! See the FSM.

It just slips onto the top of the filter and can be easily turned with a wrench. You can do it from above or below, there is more than enough room, and its 100% hassle-free.

I am using the cheapo chain oil filter wrench, had the tightness pre-adjusted with an unmounted oil filter, then locked it in place with a nylon tie. To use, just slide it over the oil filter and rotate or pull anti-clockwise (that is pulling to the left when you are under the vehicle, with your right hand on the passenger side of L-hand drive Mirage). This chain oil filter wrench will be use exclusively for Mirage, to use it for other vehicles just cut the nylon tie.

Um... You guys can't just reach up through the hole in the air dam, grab it with your hands, and unscrew it? It doesn't need to be put on that tight...

I used my hands although it took a few minutes to get it loose. Next time it should come off more easily since I only hand tightened it

+1, w/ stronghands, you can remove the oil filter by rotating it anti-clockwise, just don't overtighten the new filter so that it will be easier to remove with bare hands the next oil change.

Take the bottom plastic piece off and you have all kinds of room. Use a thin flat blade screwdriver and pop off the ten fasteners. The two minutes it takes to remove it makes a world of difference removing the filter.

Do you guys always place the car on jack stands? Is there enough clearance to do the oil change without jacking up the car?
