If you changed to new tires and maintained the same fuel economy, those tires will only get better. As a tire wears out, the fuel economy returned is greater. Swapping an old worn tire for a brand new identical brand and model tire will give you lower fuel economy.

    Could be, why is that?

With the Mirage I seem to get 40 mpg in the winter and 50+ in the summer, so I'm happy. My record was only a few months into my purchase, on I-75 in Michigan and I got 4.2 L/100 kms on my then-new Dunlop Endasaves, something like 58 MPG. I love the sound of the little engine, sounds way better than Civics etc.
