It does not have to me electronically limited for it to NOT reach the speed rating on the car.
IE, I bet the 1.0 does not even reach 100mph, (sarcasm?) so why electronically limit it?

I checked how quick my 1.0 would go, and according to navigation system it got up to about 170 on a straight, flat strech of autobahn, before I let my foot off the pedal.
It may have gotten a bit faster, but that was already faster than expected, and I don't really care exactly how fast it can go.
PS: Tyres are rated S which is 180kmh

according to google, thats about 105.
But that's beside the point. I don't know what speed our tires are rated. Can someone verify.
I do know that I had my 15" wheels with V rated tires at the time so I wasnt worried about my tires exploding on me.

I've gone 90 plenty of times but, I can only get around 37mpg going 90 so I try to avoid that.
The short version in english: In Germany you have to have summer tires with a speed index equal or higher than indicated top speed. Only winter tires are allowed with a lesser index, accompanied with a speed warning sticker in sight of the driver.
It can thus be a reasonable cost-cutting measure to limit the top speed 1-2km/h to be able to use less expensive tires. Then again tire prices are also dependend on sheer numbers - using what everybody uses in terms if sizing can be the way to a low price.
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geschwindigkeitsindex
Damn ... My 1.0 only did 145 km/hour even at autobahn .... depends on the condition i think. It was windy. But i never been able to reach speed higher than 145 km/hour

Yesterday I went the fastest I've ever gone in the Green Bean, a whopping 90mph! It felt solid, the engine was certainly humming but it didn't sound particularly strained. I think, given enough room and time, I could get up to 100mph. That said, it feels pretty clear the car is really "meant" to be driven at less than 80mph. Fuel economy begins to drop off markedly at 80 or above.
