I know the aftermarket air filtering systems look cool, but it is hard to find any real world evidence to support the opinions that they actually improve anything. From dieselplace.com....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/3-p...they-work.html
I tried taking the snorkel and resonator off and replacing it with some dryer tubing facing the grille opening, but it didn't seem to do very much. Made a bit more noise without the resonator, but it felt like there was a slight drop in low-RPM response. I put the OE stuff back on, and I'll wait for an actual intake kit.

Oops, I was trying to mod the intake resonator and snorkel and messed it up beyond the point of no return. I guess now I'll be running without it like it or not. I plugged the hole closest to they exhaust, and left the larger one open.
