So you own a mirage, Do you currently own another mitsubishi vehicle?

Okay, ill start this discussion. I bought my mirage, last 14 model on the lot september 17 2014 to be exact, and could not have been happier with the car in my upcoming almost year of ownership. I bought the manual because I knew I would out drive the warranty within 3 years. It was meant to be my commuter car which turned into a family/commuter car because gas miliage was great (50mpg avg per tank most times) and my wifes 02 civic transmission was on fritz.
While the sales man was doing up the paperwork, I was glancing at a octane blue 2015 outlander sport on the show room. I was thinking in my head about trading my truck and her car in for one because my thinking was I have 2 young kids 6 and 2, It got the IIHS safety award, 10yr/100k warrenty, and good reviews on the previous models of the sports. Toying around with the Idea, I decided to go back 6 weeks later and buy an octane blue 2015 all wheel control model. I traded my 1999 chevy silverado with 238k miles and my wifes dieing 02 civic with 160k miles. Its a great car and I see over 30mpg per tank on long highway trips with the ac on at that. I think I made another right choice going back to mitsu.
Now my fear is what will happen with us production and sales now the normal il plant is closing and I have 2 mitsubishis with warrentys. Is the company doomed.

I don't think there is anything "doomed" about Mitsubishi. USA sales are up compared to last year. Closing the Normal, Illinois plant is simply a good business decision. Mitsubishi is currently converting a former Ford factory in the Phillipines to produce the Mirage. Outlander production will continue and the Thailand plant will produce a new vehicle. Mitsubishi has consistently stated they are committed to the US market.

    You made a good choice.
I own a 1981 Colt, still runs excellent.
I would buy a Mitsubishi pickup if they would sell it in the USA.

The American auto market is HUGE, and it is not something a manufacturer will walk away from just because they had a few bad years.

I know, I know..."But Suzuki walked away!" Truth is, Suzuki never really did that well here (with cars). But Mitsubishi was selling 250,000 cars a year here 15 years ago, and I think they want to do it again.

I am not too worried about them leaving. As has been said, closing the Illinois plant just made sense. All the tax incentives put in place when the plant opened have expired, and it only produces 60,000 cars a year when it is capable of cranking out 250,000.

No reason to keep it open.

Here we are some time after the Normal IL plant closure and the Japanese fuel economy scandal, and Mitsubishi is still active and growing in the US market. I would (and have) consider buying another Mitsubishi.

Hey tomrad, do you still have your 1981 Colt? I'd like to see some pictures of it.

I had myself a few Mitsu's over the years, from 00 Mirage DE, 14 Mirage DE, 15 Lancer, 17 Mirage G4 and wife now 18 Mirage G4. I like the cars but only when in warranty. The parts are expensive and in most cases unavailable. After this Lancer I am moving to Toyota or Honda for parts availability and price. It took me 2 weeks to find out what shocks and springs I need for the Lancer and that the only difference is between 08-11 and 12-17, and then the EVO. The new Civic coupe with 2.0 and 6spd is great, or maybe the Corolla Hatch 6spd!

I owned a 1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse and also a Mirage that was 2002 I think, same as Laceygirls but mine was a sedan, not hatch

The Mirage i remember never had any problems at 85k miles. I sold it to buy a used Isuzu pickup truck (stickshift)
