I also notice that the first year or two of a particular model drivers seem to record higher milage than the ones that are newer. It must be either the older ones have been broken in or hyper-miler types are early adapters. Has anyone else who's noticed that care to posit why that might be? WRT milage after break in, mine in the Mirage has not gone up, though I'm probably driving it with a little less regard to maximizing fuel economy.

Now, I don't know your driving style, but I suggest you try driving techniques that maximize fuel economy for at least one tank. The Mirage will definitely reward your efforts here!

To help with this, consider getting some means to monitor your instant fuel economy from your OBDII port. Many here use something like ScanGauge, but I got a bluetooth adapter and use an app on my smart phone to get more info, including logging. Though cheap ELM327 OBDII adapters are available, I paid for better quality with faster response and more features, and it cost one third what the ScanGauge goes for. Knowing instant fuel economy can give helpful feedback to train your driving style to reduce fuel consumption.

Ok, finally enough vehicles in Fuelly to list a 2017 showdown. The Mirage is still the winner with the Spark being the closest to the Mirage's mpg.

Based on data from 27 vehicles, 1,151 fuel-ups and 248,592 miles of driving, the 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage gets a combined Avg MPG of 38.02 with a 0.45 MPG margin of error.

Based on data from 28 vehicles, 1,124 fuel-ups and 280,778 miles of driving, the 2017 Chevrolet Spark gets a combined Avg MPG of 35.50 with a 0.25 MPG margin of error.

Based on data from 80 vehicles, 3,604 fuel-ups and 962,994 miles of driving, the 2017 Honda Fit gets a combined Avg MPG of 33.33 with a 0.23 MPG margin of error.

Based on data from 29 vehicles, 1,114 fuel-ups and 308,348 miles of driving, the 2017 Toyota Yaris iA gets a combined Avg MPG of 33.51 with a 0.37 MPG margin of error.

Based on data from 23 vehicles, 404 fuel-ups and 107,606 miles of driving, the 2017 Hyundai Accent gets a combined Avg MPG of 32.38 with a 0.66 MPG margin of error.

I'm not on Fuelly. If I join, is there an easy way for me to upload data for 120+ fill-ups at one time?

Yes, you create a CSV: http://www.fuelly.com/csv-import

    For clarification:

Is the Yaris MPG data for the sedan or the hatchback? I think sedan (thus iA?). Different engines/transmissions in the sedan/hatch, unlike the Mirage pair.

It's the sedan. The hatchback data included hybrids which even with them in the mix is still lower than the Mirage (although not by much).

Thanks. Yaris hybrid in Europe/Japan? Is that the Prius C we get here, or an actual hybrid version of the Yaris?

That could be, when I was looking at the 2017’s listed there are two groups. Yaris (which includes hybrids) and Yaris iA (which did not). I figured for consistency I would keep it to ICE vehicles.
