Fuelly MPG Comparison: Mirage vs. Spark vs. Fit vs. Yaris

Just did a quick comparo on fuelly.com on the average mpg between the 2015 Mirage vs 2015 Spark vs 2015 Fit vs 2015 Yaris. Mirage is kicking butt.

Based on data from 13 vehicles, 253 fuel-ups and 66,275 miles of driving, the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage gets a combined Avg MPG of 39.01 with a 0.94 MPG margin of error.

Based on data from 8 vehicles, 88 fuel-ups and 22,953 miles of driving, the 2015 Chevrolet Spark gets a combined Avg MPG of 35.57 with a 1.45 MPG margin of error.

Based on data from 307 vehicles, 6,820 fuel-ups and 1,871,627 miles of driving, the 2015 Honda Fit gets a combined Avg MPG of 35.82 with a 0.14 MPG margin of error.

Based on data from 11 vehicles, 147 fuel-ups and 44,491 miles of driving, the 2015 Toyota Yaris gets a combined Avg MPG of 37.22 with a 1.46 MPG margin of error.

And if you compare to all the 1.2L Mirages in our own fuel log, Mirage is doing even better than the smaller Fuelly sample:

    42.8 MPG (US) = 18.2 KM/L = 5.5 L/100 KM = 51.4 MPG (UK)
    1.2L, Both transmissions
    105 cars

    http://mirageforum.com/forum/emgarage-stats.php

We're closing in on a million kilometers (~600k mi.) tracked in our log.

PS: one thing you have to watch out for doing Fuelly comparisons is the engine size of the various cars. Euro engines are typically smaller & more efficient than the base engine offered in the States.

    Update From Fuelly:

No data yet on 2017 Mirages so still tracking the 2015's

Based on data from 47 vehicles, 1,638 fuel-ups and 417,988 miles of driving, the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage gets a combined Avg MPG of 39.22 with a 0.33 MPG margin of error.

    Redesigned 2016 Spark:

Based on data from 19 vehicles, 339 fuel-ups and 82,615 miles of driving, the 2016 Chevrolet Spark gets a combined Avg MPG of 36.88 with a 0.75 MPG margin of error.

2016 Fit, 2017's data sample too small to be accurate, but so far it's worse than the 2016's

Based on data from 4 vehicles, 19 fuel-ups and 5,598 miles of driving, the 2017 Honda Fit gets a combined Avg MPG of 34.91 with a 3.51 MPG margin of error.

    2015 & 2016 Yaris

Based on data from 12 vehicles, 206 fuel-ups and 63,648 miles of driving, the 2016 Toyota Yaris gets a combined Avg MPG of 38.52 with a 2.06 MPG margin of error.

Those Yaris numbers are impressive. And last time I drove one - a 2008, it had waaaay more power than Mirage. Toyota does a good job of keeping their cars light and fuel efficient. As for the Fit, it's not even in the same league as Mirage. Very quick and feels infused with quality. As it should at a real world price for mid level trim 7k higher than the Mitsu. Yes, that spread takes incentives into consideration.

Yes. WHen I calculated all factors (especially the price of 2015 Mirage compared to the competitors) I believe it gives the best bang for the buck.

And if you can buy one cash used it is a total bargain since the car devaluates like crazy after a year or 2.

I now have a Toyota iA and got it for 13800 plus fees. I get a bit better mpg 39.9 vs mirage 38.8. But I got cruise and a bit bitter car. I am happy.

@remusrm - I'd venture to say the iA is quite a bit better than the Mirage. Did both the cars have the same transmission type (manual or auto)? Does the iA have much more power than the Mirage? If you traded in the Mirage, how was the trade in value? Not sure why those Scion step children (iA and iM) aren't selling well. With the incentives, they both seem like good deals.

I trade my mirage for a lancer awc and got 6500 with 84k after 2 years. The yaris I got after the Versa I purchased for 10k new was showing its flaws without cruise and high rpm in 5th. The Versa did get me 35.5 average in 5k miles I owned it. The Mirage was a 14 DE manual and the Yaris iA(mazda2) is also manual. The iA is more refined and does seem more powerful in gears 1-4 but 5th and 6th is the same. On the Grepevine climb and cajon pass the iA is way more poweruful in 4th and 5th where the Mirage had to drop at times in 3rd and go around 70 vs 80 in 4th with the iA.

    Here is my fuelly stats

FYI. The iA does handle better but the tires are worst in sidewall roll than the mirage's. Both feel solid but the iA does have more interior panel noise and weird click rattles. We recently drove G4 ES and felt the car is more honest than the iA and can be usually had for 1000-2000k less than the iA.

I am actually going to get a Mirage G4 with phone/sound pkg for 11888. That price and my trade in will be less than I am paying for my iA now at 282.
