Old thread, huge bump...
That cam is absolutely insane. I've never seen or imagined anything like this. I genuinely expected sstandard
Is there any more info or better places i can find more info between the 2015/2017 engines?

Wanted to bump this thread as well. Just to reiterate, the''rollers'' are in the camshaft lobes......not the lifters.
I have never seen this design either and google searching shows absolutely nothing as well.
Why only in the CVT and why use a seemingly unique design on such a budget engine. Its a very surprising design!
I'm glad you said that, (about the engine being durable). If I end up in a G4 manual transmission, then I'm in it for a long time....I'll put over 200K...I'll do some short highway, and some long (2 hours), but mostly a 25 mile to work 50mph and below.
I believe the car in the US asks for 5W20, but elsewhere in the world it's 5W30. If the manual says 5W-30 is an option, that's what I would run...even if conventional....
I wonder what kind of stresses that little roller will experience and how they will hold up over time. Is the roller itself lubricated?

At first i was completely shocked at the design. Its less efficient, and you are guaranteed too be able to make more power if you had the roller on the tappet
I don't think long term durability will be an issue because even "regular" mechanical roller cams have valve lash so the bearings and such take similair shock loading/unloading
4 positive things;
1. It's probably lighter than a standard camshaft
2. At peak loss, the bearing is in play
3. They didnt have to start from scratch on the head design
4. It works
Is it actually confirmed to be an automatic-only thing?
This seems unlikely.
So, they use this roller cam in the CVT cars but not the 5spd cars? What do they use then?
Both make identical power so it must not do anything? And manual gets better mileage....
