Scraping/grinding noise while in reverse with my 5 Speed?

Recently I have been experiencing a light grinding/scraping noise while in reverse and backing up a moderately inclined hill. I don't have trouble getting into reverse, its not a clunk or gear grind, it happens after reverse is fully engaged and as I begin to let out the clutch while the clutch is still slipping just slightly.

It sounds like its coming from the transmission and seems to be clutch related but was wondering if its the rear brake drums catching inappropriately while in reverse? It only ever happens in reverse while letting out the clutch.

It doesn't sound like normal gear-teeth whine, its more of a mechanical grinding scrapping noise, similar to a bad wheel bearing (but its not wheel bearing).

    Thanks for any help.

Happens to me while moving from a stop in first gear while adding more gas than usual.

Also happens to me when using more gas/clutch slippage than normal (but so far that's only when reversing up a steep hill). Other than the clutch plate or throw out bearing I cant think what else it could be. Probably nothing to worry about.

What does dealer think? It should be under warranty. It sounds like it could be rear drum brakes... self-adjuster?

Maybe pads too close and the noise you hearing is dirt grinding btw pads and drum. Or weak spring. Or parking brake cable

Only heard it in reverse but its intermittent and only when the clutch is slipping quite a bit, like when parallel parking on a steep hill. Wont take it to the dealer because its intermittent and not easily reproduced.

I had a car with a broken engine mount once and certain gear and throttle combinations would cause movement in the engine which resulted in odd screeching grinding noises. Not saying that is what is causing it but it may be something that could be found upon inspection even if the sound is not reproduced.

Yeah....just stopped reversing it on steep hills. Actually the condition still exists I just avoid situations that cause it. No other issues so far, 5 speed is great even when cold. All other rotational drivetrain components are trouble free as well. Will update if future trouble arrises but for now its undetermined. Should note that at 30k miles changed trans fluid to redline mtl which works well. Old fluid was medium yellowish like aged powersteering fluid, didn't smell burnt but did smell well used for whatever that's worth. I'm glad I changed it.
