    gas pedal suddenly not working!

ran into a problem today while going on an 8 hour drive.

left the car at home for christmas for 3 days. when i got back i used it immediately and nothing was wrong.
the next day, i did the trip and i noticed in the morning when i started it, in first gear, when i step on the gas, it wont rev. it doesnt die down though and maintains at around 1k rpm. gas will work in a few seconds.

as the trip went on, it happened only in traffic either in 1st and 2nd gear quite a few times only in standstills. halfway, at 3rd, it did it one time only.

i removed the volt stabilizer i installed about a week ago but it didnt help.

i stopped, thinking it was the clutch, i adjusted the engagement point higher. it kinda solved the problem till the end of my trip then it came back again a couple of times in 1st gear.

now at home, i unplugged the battery and removed the gas cap, letting alot of air out. havent tested it yet. will do later.

anyone knows what couldve caused this? its very hazardous that i just lost control of the gas

Do you have the Auto Stop-and-Go system? Any check engine lights on?

no cel's and no stop and go system.

tested the car again and it still did it a couple of times in 1st gear.

Why did you think it was the clutch?

I've heard of throttle position sensors causing problems like this.

Throttle position sensor - Check the multiplug on the back of the accelerator pedal. If it were a MAP issue, you'd probably have drivability problems throughout the rev range.

Don't think there's any adjustment, but you can see if the plug has worked loose. You can also try putting the car in neutral and very gently pressing the accelerator with your fingers - You can do this a lot more accurately than with your foot - and you might notice it hesitate or such with very slight pressure whilst in neutral - Throttle pots do occasionally wear and develop a 'dead' spot, but usually on well used cars.
