I took my Mirage to service, and I walked out with this...

Yeah, I know. It's a pretty awesome vehicle, it's now my wife's car. I wanted her to have a new, dependable vehicle. That means I "inherit" her 2005 Volvo S40 T5 AWD, not a bad ride at all, and a pretty kickass hobby car that can be used as a daily driver.

What I'm evaluating is if I keep the Mirage or not... I don't need two car payments (the Volvo is paid off, of course). We'll see what happens...

Noooo! Don't get rid of it!

Because who else will post those excellent comments defending the Mirage on Jalopnik?

I'd say leave the mirage and save up. There's always something to save up for.

Sell the Volvo to pay off the Mirage.
Custom Mirage products: Cruise control kit, Glove box light, MAF sensor housing, Rear sway bar, Upper grill block

Current project: DIY Nitrous oxide setup for ~$100

Doax has a point. Mirage will be less of a maintenance issue in the next few years.

But AWD and luxury though. Hmmm.

Exactly. Turbo 5-cylinder, all wheel drive, 6-speed manual. Fantastic handling. Car is in great shape, only needs a couple of fixes (which I can do myself). And I don't owe a dime on it.

I bet the Volvo's 10 year warranty expired recently.

Nice new ride. Volvo is nice too. When the Volvo starts needing work, expect a big ka ching $$$. Parts are not cheap. I had an S40, but not awd.

Actually I've been surprised by parts costs. Not really expensive especially if you shop around (in places like Rockauto and even Amazon). I can do most mechanical work myself, so there's that too...

Also, it's crazy the value Mitsubishi offers. This Outlander Sport was $21K. What you get for that price is pretty damn good! If only more people would go to Mitsu dealers... They really offer probably the best automotive bang for your buck.
