    Just check it every now and then. You might try loosening the adjustment bolt 1/2 a turn and see if it slips. If it doesn't then it was over tightened.

    Mitsumi, there are specifications in the service manual regarding belt tension checks. Are you able to refer to a service manual for instructions?

    That belt will separate at that seam. Why wait for it to fail at the worst time and the worst place? Replace it immediately. I had almost the exact same failure in my personal car with a brand new belt (Nissan OE).

    If you want to let it go, carry a spare (and tools) and count on it failing at the worst possible place and time (lousy neighborhood and torrential down pour with 60 mph winds under an old tree).
