    Mirage brake history (factory revisions/changes)

We all know that Mitsubishi is changing the brakes on the 2017 Mirage. We're not sure if the hatch will share the same brakes as the sedan quite yet. So, I figured we'd do the same as we did with the Mirage suspension history and have a thread to document the changes over the years.

    2014
    - No changes

    2015
    - New front ABS sensor (left and right are the same part number)
    - New rear ABS sensors (left and right are different part numbers)

    No 2016 model, see 2017

    2017
    - Increased front rotor diameter to 251mm
    - New brake pad material (brake pad fits on 2014 & 2015)
    - Increased rear drum diameter to 203mm was 180mm
    - New brake shoe material (brake shoes do not fit 2014 & 2015)

    2018
    - ?

Perhaps a silly question - when it is time to replace my brakes, will the 2017 equipment fit? I.e. if I want larger rotors/drums, can I just bolt them on?

Most likely yes. For the fronts I'd imagine you'll need new rotors, and new caliper supports. I am going to guess the calipers and pads will be the same. I've seen this done on other vehicles.

For the rears you'll need a new backing plate, drum and new shoes most likely.

In a years time these parts will all be available at salvage yards at reasonable prices.

That's a good question. Would be nice if the difference is the rotors and caliper support only.

I wouldn't bother with rears at that point. Any car I owned with disk/rear drum set up didn't need rear brake shoes. Of cause there's always a possibility someone will drive off with e-brake.

Any update? Has anyone tried using brakes from 2017 onto earlier models?

Daox. Just a heads up since I cannot update the chart above, but Mitsubishipartswarehouse has all the updated part numbers for 17' brake components. :-)

Thank you! But do the brake components from 2017 need any extras to be able to fit onto a 2014?

I see 2 part numbers for 17' rear drums in the chart. Didn't they all have the bigger drums in 17'?
