1: Professional reviewers just don't "get" the appeal of the Mirage. The Mirage is simple, efficient, reliable transportation. It's not a "hot hatch" and is softly sprung so it rides well for a sub-compact but it's handling is mushy. It's not loaded with a bunch of unnecessary technology and is simple enough that you the owner can maintain it if you choose to.

2: The Mirage is extremely reliable. The 3A92 1.2 3 cylinder uses a timing chain, not a timing belt for durability. The Mirage uses a Jatco CVT7 for the CVT which is designed to handle over 125 hp so it should be extremely durable with the Mirage's 74 hp. Peruse the forums and you'll see that there a very very few mechanical problems.

3: If you're in a lot of stop and go traffic the CVT is probably better for commuting. The manual transmission will deliver better mileage overall (look at the fuel economy log for comparison). The CVT can seem like the Mirage has no acceleration. When you test drive one with a CVT put the shifter in "B" and stick your foot in it from a stop. You'll be surprised how peppy it is.

4: The paint is thin on the Mirage. Also, some owners have had issues with the rear axle being out of alignment. You could always make it a condition that it would have to be checked before you purchase. The Mirage is the most loved by their owners and most hated by reviewers. I absolutely love this little car and would love to get a second one.

Professional reviewers who might get to drive some pretty high-end cars will undoubtedly be put off by a economy car like the Mirage.

    Owners love them.

I attribute part of the owner's affection to a ownership bias. But not all. Some of us just like that it is economical to purchase and economical to operate.

There are some problems with rear axle alignment that cannot be adjusted. Not a big deal, but might lead to quick-wearing tyres.

Get a manual transmission and you'll be fine. Some Americans like the CVT for their own reasons, but the manual transmission can often get better fuel economy.

Welcome to the forum. Good luck and keep us updated.

Reviewers tend to hate the cars I like. Mercedes CLA250, Mirage, etc etc

Don't listen to professional reviews. Look at real owner reviews

Now that's a proper test drive. Here's hoping everything works out for you. It would be interesting to know how you plan on using the car. Stateside, the Mitsubishi Mirage is a tiny car, but I know in the European market there are smaller models on the roads. It would be interesting to know how you plan on using it - urban streets or high-speed roads.

You have some time before delivery. Let us know if you have any other questions, and have a look around the forums here to learn more about the car. I understand you will have some options that are not available in other markets.

By the way, what exactly did you order - automatic or manual transmission? What year and trim level?

    Cheers

Even with roundabouts? I would guess that would challenge a soft suspension. I haven't found it to be a problem, but would like to try a more firm rear suspension.

I wish we had the Eco leaves you get...
