I like that these are all reversible/no drill solutions. I just found this though, and it looks effective, although it requires drilling and this high quality version requires welding as well. I imagine this could be done more simply with some square stock, sleeves and bolts with welding being (suggested) but technically optional.

    http://www.fiestastforum.com/forum/t...ar-Torsion-Bar!

I did a rough model of what I'm thinking; I'm not an engineer so feel free to shoot holes in it. My main concern is bearing loads from the bolt sleeves on both the torsion beam and the stiffener tube. Perhaps careful sizing and using washers instead of spacers could mitigate that.

To clarify, the assembly shown goes entirely within the torsion bar, with flange bolts/nuts on outside passing through the sleeves. Sleeves are intended to spread bearing load from the bolts and to center the stiffener in the torsion beam. I haven't been under my car to take measurements yet, so dimensions are approximate (for this model, I used 1.25 square tube with a 1/16 wall, and 5/8 sleeves over (1/2" bolts).

Interesting design. I'm sure it would work. Give it a try and let us know!

I really don't like the idea of drilling into the torsion beam myself. But, I'm sure it would work.

After some close inspection, my bar is fine. none of the above mentioned problems.
And I drive my car pretty hard.
And although we dont have icy winters here, no salt and other chemicals on the road, I've driven the car in several floods.

Soo... how about we figure out something that actually works? I think I have a new idea...

About two weeks ago I tried out my new idea for a sway bar alternative. It actually IS a sway bar, but one of my own design. So far, it has been working amazingly well. The car is a totally different car handling wise. Its confident and planted during corners which totally was not the case before hand. Its also not pretty, but gets the job done.

    Anyway, lets see some pics.

    Rough pieces made up.

The bolts were a little short. This was later remedied.

    All tacked up.

I then pulled it off and finish welded it.

I cleaned it up, primed, and painted it as well. I am missing those pictures. But, here are some of it on the car.

Looks really solid. How many miles have you put on it so far?

Not many at this point. I don't put many miles on my cars. I'd say a few hundred. Granted, the roads are horrific right now here in Wisconsin. Bumps galore. Should be a good stress test!

Well, I've read a few books now, and I've done a lot of research on the internet. The materials are nothing all that fancy, however they have been carefully selected. My reading and research confirms that using normal materials is no big deal. There are a lot of aftermarket bars that don't use fancy materials. However, the tube is a tube, and not a solid bar. It is hollow and thus a lot lighter than it looks. The whole setup weights only 6 lbs.

Nah, this is a prototype. It is primed and painted and that will have to be enough. Plus, I may make another one that is a bit beefier just to see how they differ. I haven't decided quite yet as I am pretty darn happy with how this one turned out. Its a great 'street' bar.

That looks great Daox. Really nice piece.

In regards to the one up the page that goes inside the beam, that is a proven system that works. VW guys have been doing it for years. It was called the O-bar mod over there. The drilling is the hard part obviously.

I like Daox's the best of what I have seen. I have the UR bar, and its pretty flimsy actually and doesn't really add the stiffness I feel the car needs.
