Just did: Oil change and 5MT fluid change

You know what's a bad idea? Doing either of those in the driveway when it's really, really windy. They're both so thin, I had the drain pan underneath, and a gust of wind would come and I'd get droplets of oil 2+ feet away. It was a bit of a mess.

Went with Napa Gold 1356 filter, and 0w-20 Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy. I already had the first oil change at the dealer, so I figured the filter would be a little looser than factory. Nope. Tried from the bottom, tried from the top. Ended up taking the splash panel off. My strap type filter wrench just wouldn't quite get in there, so I ended up using the smaller wrench of these to finally loosen it.

For the transmission, I went with the Redline 75w-80. Followed this write up, and it worked like a charm. Haven't driven it yet, but I'll be sure to comment on if it helps with the slight difficulty I sometimes have getting it into gear.

The wix gold is a great filter but for the price, the Fram xg7317 is $9 at Walmart and it's a incredible oil filter. Not only does it filter the most, it has a metal mesh to hold the synthetic filter material, rated for 15k miles, and it has a easy to grip filter housing.

The redline mtf is good stuff for sure! The magnetic drain plugs are a nice feature to add with square drive (I am changing mine next oil change for sure)

I went by the recommendations of this thread for the filter. It was under $8 at NAPA with AAA discount. I thought people didn't like FRAM? The rubber grip sure would have been nice on this Mitsubishi filter from the dealer!

The only m18 1.5 magnetic plug I could find locally was the Dorman one that someone on here said was too large to fit. I'm gentle with the car, so didn't think it was a huge deal not getting the magnetic plug.

The magnetic drain plug I mentioned replaces the 24mm with a 3/8 ratchet end. I'm planning on swapping both of my fill and drain plugs to this as they never round off like those 24s sometimes do with their small head size. I believe pepboys can order these in the store for cheaper.

The Napa filter is great, the filtration is 95% at 20 microns which is very good, I imagine it's better than stock mitsu filters. The Fram ultra is rated for 99.6% filtration at 20 microns, slightly better.

Fram does get a bad wrap, their regular filters and tough guard filters are trash, cut aways show cardboard end caps. It's really not the end caps but it's the lack of a silicone bleed back valve and cheap construction that makes them hated. They work but are not very good. Strangely enough Fram ultras are some of the best oil filters on the market. For the $9 and conscience of Walmart shelf availability they are an excellent choice.

Most oem filters are made by other companies, not sure who makes the mitsu filter. I know Fram made the Honda oem filter.

I use a Hastngs LF486 which is the longer version of the Baldwin 1431. It has a higher bypass setting of 14 psi which is better than the 8-11 psi rating of most others.
